Event Highlights
Attendees were treated to live demonstrations of hydrogen HGV technology, including a live refuelling session that highlighted the efficiency and practicality of these vehicles. The rigorous Millbrook Hill Route was utilized to test and showcase vehicle performance under demanding conditions. Industry experts, including OEM representatives, hydrogen producers, and logistics specialists, delivered insightful talks covering topics such as:
– Challenges and solutions in deploying hydrogen HGVs
– Cost-benefit analysis of adopting hydrogen fuel technology
– Infrastructure requirements and innovations
Kyle Arnold, Managing Director of HyHAUL, expressed enthusiasm about the event, stating, “We are excited to offer operators this opportunity to experience hydrogen HGVs firsthand. We believe it will be of great value to those exploring sustainable solutions for their fleets.”
HyHAUL’s Vision for Decarbonising Haulage
Central to HyHAUL’s mission is the development of the UK’s largest hydrogen mobility corridor along the M4. Plans include the establishment of state-of-the-art refuelling infrastructure and the deployment of 30 hydrogen-powered HGVs by 2026, with an ambitious goal to expand the fleet to 300 vehicles by 2030. This initiative aims to significantly reduce emissions in one of the UK’s most polluting sectors.
A Collaborative Effort
The event was part of the Zero Emission HGV and Infrastructure Demonstrator (ZEHID) programme, under which HyHAUL has been allocated £31.8 million by the Department for Transport and Innovate UK. Unlike other consortia focusing on battery electric vehicles, HyHAUL is dedicated to hydrogen-centric solutions. The project is a joint venture between Protium Green Solutions and Marubeni Europower, aiming to deploy hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles along the M4 corridor by March 2026.

Looking Ahead
Hydrogen fuel cell technology is poised to play a pivotal role in the future of heavy goods transport. HyHAUL’s initiatives exemplify how public and private collaboration can drive meaningful change, demonstrating that sustainability and profitability can go hand in hand. Fleet operators interested in exploring sustainable solutions are encouraged to consider the potential of hydrogen-powered HGVs.
